Even though most dogs are friendly and have may show no history of aggression, every now and then, dogs can become aggressive and attack people or children causing serious injuries. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that approximately 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year, with half of the victims being children. Of those bitten, nearly 900,000 people, roughly one in five, require medical attention. The CDC also estimates that a staggering 27,000 people had to undergo reconstructive surgery as the result of a dog attack in 2012.
Attorney Cunha recommends that after dog bites contact animal control and identify the owner of the animal if possible and seek medical attention and contact your lawyer. Do not provide a statement to any insurance company before talking to your lawyer.
